Actuality Films was founded in 2005 as a kind of internet nickelodeon featuring film clips from the early 20th century. The site had early films from New York City, American Variety Stage, America at Work and the Edison Collection and we edited these to the early sounds recordings from the time. The site also included the work of Edwin S. Porter, Edward Muybridge, Thomas Edison, Cecil Hepworth, the Lumiere Brothers, Georges Meliies and other pioneers of cinema. It had clickable interactive sections such as the Theater Unique and Automatic Vaudeville for the web view to explore the origins of motion pictures.
The very name of our company derives from the term for the first films which was "actuality films". Early audiences were delighted to actually see places and events taking place before their eyes . Spectators jumped out of their seats when they saw a train rushing into a station for the first time on celluloid. It is from this from this ideas that the simple pleasure of recognizing motion and objects in the world is the building blocks of cinema. The names of such cinematic giants as Sergei Eisenstein and Alfred Hitchcock loom large in the history of cinema because they pioneered and applied the principles of actuality to their films.
From these early beginning of the Actuality Films website, evolved the idea of an animation and editing company. Our first venture was for to the Genarts Beastie Boys Music Video Contest in which we were one of the finalists for our video based on their song Sabotage. Later we entered other online video contests for such companies as Genius Rocket, Poptent, Aniboom and Vertical Measures. We were also winners for our South x Southwest Music and Film Festival promotional video 2D animation, animated video for Flights Global, Vertical Measures Boost Your Juice video contest and another promotional video for the New York Film Festival.
Our contest work led us into the professional animation production industry with making 2D animated pitch videos for advertising companies such as Alison & Partners. We've also done animated music videos for musicians such as New York City based rap artist Kamikaze Picnic. We've also done a number of storyboard and illustration projects such as an illustrated children's book for PNC Bank's "Growing Up Great" program commissioned by Eventive Marketing.
In today's competitive world of animation, we bring impeccable taste and talent to bulls-eye your concepts in a compelling visual presentation. We use classical storytelling techniques because we believe that hardest thing to achieve out of complex ideas is simplicity. We're inspired by the origins of cinema and animation because they have a magical quality that is hard to achieve today's over-produced media. We draw from the 2D animation work of Warner Brothers and Hanna-Barbara because they are timelessly funny and visually interesting. In a dark age of computer generate animation, we bring our images to life with a hand drawn skill that is rare and truly animates. |
